Free Spring Fecal Testing (Parasite Testing) in cows, horses, goats, and sheep. A service provided by Safe-guard and Milan Center Feed & Grain.
Bring your fecal samples starting March 23rd through April 14th. They will be shipped to Safe-guard’s facility on Monday, April 16th. Results are typically available within 2-3 weeks. We will call each customer with the results from the testing.
Begin collecting samples March 23rd and keep them cool (refrigerated). DO NOT FREEZE SAMPLES. Samples will keep under refrigerated conditions for 30+ days. We can evaluate internal parasite levels as well as coccidiosis levels. Samples should be taken from every group of animals on the farm (cows, horses, goats, and sheep). There is no limit to the number of samples that can be submitted per household.
Place a golf ball size amount of manure in a zip lock bag (turn it inside out to collect sample). The sample must be fresh (less than 24 hours old). Clearly identify each bag with a familiar name or code. You will need to know what these different codes represent, therefore, they must mean something to you. All together we need no more than a golf ball size amount of ‘fresh’ manure in each sample bag.
Collect 17-20 fecal samples from each group (100 + head) of animals on the farm. If the group is smaller than 100 head collect samples from 8-10 % of the animals in the group. Individual ear tag numbers are not necessary when identifying each sample bag.
